I'm a member at the YWCA and since April of last year have done a once/week class called Boot Camp. I used to take the class on Wednesdays, but recently switched to Mondays (helps when I'm rehearsing a show). I have the best trainer ever (Tim Pearson!), but more importantly, I have the best workout partner ever (Kari Kelly!). We've been workout buddies for nearly a year now, and there are days when I wouldn't go to the gym except that I know I'm supposed to meet Kari there. And vice versa. I'll make sure to introduce you all to her in a future post. The group I workout with is also uber-supportive and great. I'll make sure to introduce you all to them in a future post as well.
Do I Swim. Bike. or Run. at Boot Camp? Well, sort of. There is running. And jumping, bear crawling, kettle bell swinging, trx'ing, leap frogging, plank walking, wall sitting, squatting, lunging, medicine ball throwing, push upping, box jumping, bosu ridiculousness'ing, tug of warring and general cursing under my breath for an hour each week. It's a tough workout every single week. This week, as I was running my lap at minute 45 (at the end of the 2nd circuit of deep squats with a body bar overhead, tricep pushups on a medicine ball and jumps over a step unit), I was struggling. But I thought of this fundraiser and how every bit of physical activity between now and race day is going to help. And I thought of the individuals we serve, the artists I teach with, and all my friends and family supporting me in this venture, especially Dylan Fresco and Angie Haigh today. So I kept putting one foot in front of the other as I ran up that ramp and down the stairs to come back and do one more full cycle of the circuit. I tried and I got it done.
